The Lake Association has benefited this lake and two-town region for many years, starting from its beginnings as the Porter Lake Fish and Game Association in the late 1940's. The contributions of the Association include the following:

  • Paying attention to game laws and legislation effecting ecology for more than 60 years.  

  • Contributing funds to Red Cross swim programs at Strong Beach/New Vineyard Beach.

  • Hosting the annual Bean Hole Bean Supper.

  • Recording and filing ice-in and ice-out dates.

  • Monitoring water reading of clarity.

  • Writing the annual newsletter for the Porter Lake Region.

  • Completing major repairs to the dam and spillway.

  • Completing a watershed survey of Porter Lake.

  • Initiating a Courtesy Boat Inspection Program since 2004.

  • Contributing funds for improvements to Strong Beach (Beanie's Beach).

  • Providing funds to Strong and New Vineyard libraries to support educational activities focused on lake and water resources.

  • Restoring the grave site of eminent lake resident and nature lover, Llewellyn White

  • Supporting the Lake Smart Program endorsed and encouraged by(COLA) now known as the Maine Lakes Society(MLS).
