The Lake Association has benefited this lake and two-town region for many years, starting from its beginnings as the Porter Lake Fish and Game Association in the late 1940's. The contributions of the Association include the following:
Paying attention to game laws and legislation effecting ecology for more than 60 years.
Contributing funds to Red Cross swim programs at Strong Beach/New Vineyard Beach.
Hosting the annual Bean Hole Bean Supper.
Recording and filing ice-in and ice-out dates.
Monitoring water reading of clarity.
Writing the annual newsletter for the Porter Lake Region.
Completing major repairs to the dam and spillway.
Completing a watershed survey of Porter Lake.
Initiating a Courtesy Boat Inspection Program since 2004.
Contributing funds for improvements to Strong Beach (Beanie's Beach).
Providing funds to Strong and New Vineyard libraries to support educational activities focused on lake and water resources.
Restoring the grave site of eminent lake resident and nature lover, Llewellyn White
Supporting the Lake Smart Program endorsed and encouraged by(COLA) now known as the Maine Lakes Society(MLS).
